Public Meeting on Proposed Realignment of Southrail Road and Extension of North Oakridge Circle

            Public meeting from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, April 24, to discuss North Charleston road improvements.

Charleston County RoadWise is holding a public meeting from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, April 24, to gather input on proposed plans to:

  • Realign Southrail Road;

  • Extend North Oakridge Circle; and

  • Install a sidewalk on Lady Street.

The meeting on these projects will be held from 6-8 p.m. in the cafeteria of R. B. Stall High School located at 7749 Pinehurst Street in North Charleston.

Funding for the improvements would come from the Transportation Half-Cent Sales Tax.

The public meeting on April 24 will focus on proposed alternatives that could address the problem of difficult left turn movements from Southrail Road onto Ashley Phosphate Road and from Ashley Phosphate Road onto Southrail Road.

Those attending the meeting will have an opportunity to make comments, ask questions and review conceptual designs for improvements to traffic flow.

The public will also be asked to give comments on a proposed extension of North Oakridge Circle to Northside Drive. The purpose of this proposed extension is to increase connectivity within the local streets and offer additional options for traffic movement.

A sidewalk is proposed for Lady Street to improve pedestrian travel and sidewalk connectivity. Plans for this improvement will also be presented at the April 24 meeting.

Charleston County RoadWise is the name of the Charleston County Government’s management program for the construction of roads, highways, resurfacing, paving and drainage projects that are funded by the Transportation Half-Cent Sales Tax.

The Charleston County Transportation Half-Cent Sales Tax referendum approved by voters in November of 2006 included funding infrastructure improvements.

Visit the official Charleston County Transportation Half-Cent Sales Tax Web site www.ccroadwise.com for more information on these projects, public meeting notices and up-to-date news and information.
