Charleston County Opens Fleet Equipment Repair Facility

Charleston County Council members, Sheriff Al Cannon, Jr., and other County officials will attend a ribbon cutting ceremony at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 17, to officially open the doors of the new Charleston County Fleet Equipment Repair Facility.

The repair garage will maintain and repair vehicles belonging to Charleston County Government departments and the Sheriff’s Office. Charleston County’s Technology Services’ Radio Operations and the County’s Procurement Department’s Parts Warehouse are also housed in the facility.

“The facility highlights Charleston County Government’s commitment to quality service to our citizens by assuring that our County equipment is in good working order,” said Teddie Pryor, Chairman of Charleston County Council. “This is important because it means that the County’s cars, trucks, ambulances, road graders and all support vehicles are efficiently maintained to provide the best service to our citizens.”

The plan to build the repair garage was approved by Charleston County Council on October 16, 2007. The garage replaces a smaller facility that was built in 1971.

The expanded facility, located at 4371 Headquarters Road in North Charleston, is a 26,744-square foot, two story building. There are 28 employees who will work at the facility under various Charleston County departments.

The project was managed by Charleston County Government’s Capital Projects Department.
