Ordinance Passes First Reading for Proposed Zoning Text Changes that Affect Solid Waste Disposal Facilities and Other Uses
At a special Charleston County Council meeting on Thursday, July 16, Council approved the first of three readings to proposed text changes to the Charleston County Zoning and Land Development Regulations Ordinance.
Council also held a public hearing on Thursday, July 16 at 5:30 p.m. on the proposed changes, and earlier this week, on Monday, July 13, the Charleston County Planning Commission recommended that the text changes be approved.
If adopted by County Council, the ordinance will implement the recently updated Charleston County Comprehensive Plan to clarify that the existing solid waste disposal facilities, and other unrelated commercial and industrial uses previously permitted before April 21, 1999, do not require a Special Exception from the Board of Zoning Appeals if a change or expansion occurs within the existing boundary of the facilities’ property and they meet all other zoning requirements.
Upcoming meetings on this issue are listed below, and are open to the public:
-
7 p.m. on Tuesday, July 21: Charleston County Council meeting and second reading of the ordinance.
-
7 p.m. on Tuesday, August 11: Charleston County Council meeting and third reading of the ordinance.
