Citizens Recycle 950 Electronics on Electronic Recycling Day
A total of 170 vehicles showed up, and their passengers turned in 950 electronic items at Charleston County’s Environmental Management Department’s Electronic Recycling Day event last weekend. The second annual event was held from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 14 at the Tanger Outlet shopping center.
During Electronic Recycling Day, residents dropped off their old, non-working or unused electronics to be recycled. Electronic devices often consist of valuable resources such as precious metals (gold or silver), more common metals (aluminum and copper) and engineered plastics. Electronic recycling helps to recover these valuable materials while also conserving energy and landfill space.
The following is a break-down of the number and type of items that were turned in by residents to be recycled:

Charleston County’s Environmental Management Department, Knology and the Tanger Outlets hosted the event to coincide with America Recycles Day, which is celebrated nationally every year on Nov. 15. Volunteers were present to help with unloading electronics and directing traffic.
Residents who could not attend the Nov. 14 event can recycle their electronics at one of the eight Charleston County solid waste convenience centers open to the public:
