Charleston County Government Publishes 2010 Annual Report

Report gives the public information on Charleston County Government services, accomplishments and how citizens’ tax dollars are used throughout the fiscal year

Charleston County Government has published its Fiscal Year 2010 Annual Report, which is now available on the County’s Web site, to give the public an overview of what County government accomplished during the fiscal year from July 1, 2009, to June 30, 2010.

The report begins with a letter from Charleston County Administrator Allen O’Neal stating, “For the eleventh consecutive year, the County balanced its budget without a millage increase by carefully balancing a mix of service reductions, organizational efficiencies and revenue enhancements, while responsibly meeting staffing, capital and core services needs.”

The County’s annual report is written in an easy-to-read newsletter style, with bullet points and short updates on County programs and projects.

In a tight economy, Charleston County Government took creative measures to balance a budget and also preserve its financial foundations, maintaining its strong AAA bond rating with Standard and Poor’s and receiving an Aa1 bond rating, due to a re-calibration process, from Moody’s Investors Service.

According to O’Neal, the next budget season preparation will require his continuing “to work with Council, our elected and appointed officials and County staff to do everything possible to streamline our efforts to reduce costs and ensure that Charleston County services are maintained and that our financial standings hold strong.”

All citizens are encouraged to read the Fiscal Year 2010 Charleston County Annual Report. Go to www.charlestoncounty.org, and click on the “FY2010 Charleston County Annual Report” link located under the “What’s New” tab.
