County Offers Free Disadvantaged Business Enterprise Unified Certification Workshop on May 23

Charleston County Government announces a free South Carolina Unified Certification Program (UCP) workshop for minority and disadvantaged business owners. The workshop will be held at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, May 23 at the Lonnie Hamilton, III Public Services Building located at 4045 Bridge View Drive in North Charleston, Suite B-339.

The workshop is being hosted by the Contracts and Procurement Department’s Disadvantaged Business Enterprise Program (DBE). It will be conducted by the S.C. Department of Transportation’s DBE Program and Compliance Supervisor, Gary Linn.

"This workshop will provide an outstanding opportunity for minority businesses to learn about the UCP application process," said Carl Moore, Charleston County’s DBE Program Manager. "It is directed toward business owners who desire certification or who require recertification, which can enhance their opportunities to compete for construction projects."

The certification program eliminates the need for firms to obtain Disadvantaged Business Enterprise certification from multiple agencies in the state. Certified firms under the state UCP are recognized by recipients of Federal Aviation Administration and U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Highway Administration and Federal Transit Administration funds in the state of South Carolina.

Those attending the workshop will have the opportunity to learn about:

  • UCP certification requirements
  • Navigating through the application process
  • The benefits of being UCP certified
  • Upcoming contract opportunities with Charleston County Government
  • And more!

Space is limited, so those wishing to attend must sign up in advance by contacting LaZana Porter, Charleston County DBE Administrative Assistant, by phone at (843) 958-4769 or by email at lporter@charlestoncounty.org.
