Charleston County News Release

Release Number: 3727

Date: February 21, 2014

Time is Running Out to Enter Charleston County’s Recycling Awareness Student Video Contest
Only three weeks left to enter and students can win cash prizes and appear in a Public Service Announcement

The Recycling Awareness Student Video Contest sponsored by Charleston County Government’s Environmental Management Department (CCEM) in partnership Charleston County School District (CCSD) is underway! There are three weeks left for participants to create and submit an original video promoting recycling awareness and participation in schools.

Any CCSD student grades K-12 can create a video. For participants under 13 years of age, an adult will need to submit the video on their behalf. Additionally, a parent permission form must be submitted for each contest participant, regardless of age, in order for their video submission to be published for viewing and voting. See complete contest rules on the contest website. CCEM staff has also compiled a list of helpful resources designed to help participants get started and on a successful video submission.

Students will be judged on the creativity, overall quality and persuasiveness of their videos. The public will be able to vote on the contest website for their favorite submission beginning March 18th, and the winners will be chosen based on a combination of public voting and scoring by a panel of judges.

The top three finalists for each grade division (elementary, middle, high) will receive cash prizes. Additionally, the student members of the first place teams from each division will have the opportunity to appear in a professionally produced CCEM commercial that will air on local television channels.

A number of students and facilitators have started to work on their video submissions. “We are excited to see the creative ways in which students are promoting positive, lifelong recycling habits to their peers.” said Charleston County’s Greening Schools Representative, Bronwyn Santos.

For more information and to learn how to get involved, contact Bronwyn Santos, Charleston County Environmental Management’s Greening Schools Community Representative at (843) 720-7111 or
