All voters in Charleston County Elections must show one of these:
- Voter Registration Card
- South Carolina Drivers' License
- South Carolina Identification Card
Voters who registered to vote by mail since November 2002 must show proof of identification and residency, by presenting a:
- current and valid photo identification
(S.C. Drivers License or S.C. Identification Card)
- current utility bill
- current bank statement
- current government check
- current paycheck
- current government document other than your Voter Registration Card
Voters can return with the proper identification or, if they do not have the proper ID, they can choose to vote a provisional (challenged) ballot.
This new requirement is mandated under the 2002 Help America Vote Act (HAVA).
