| Charleston County offers a comprehensive In-Service Training program aimed at providing continuing education opportunities for employees to maintain various certification levels. Employees are paid for all time dedicated to this training.

Education...Being Certified
Basic EMT: This course is offered by Trident Technical College several times throughout the year. You must be at least 18 years old by the completion of the course. Classes are held twice a week and at night, usually from 6 to 10 p.m. Prerequisites for the course are:
A high school graduate or have a GED. Certification in CPR is recommended prior to attending the class.
Call Trident Technical College for additional information or to register. Classes fill very quickly and there is usually a waiting list.
Paramedic: This course is offered by LowCountry Regional EMS Council twice a year. Prior EMT certification is required.
Salary Range:
A Basic EMT salary is $32,649/year. A Crew Chief salary is $46,081/year. A Paramedic’s salary can start at $38,479 per year, and can range as high as $58,479 per year. All positions include full Charleston County benefits, paid holidays, uniforms, and additional training opportunities.
