Community Emergency Response Team (CERT)

Hurricane Season is June 1 to November 30

But disasters are not limited to hurricanes or a specific time of year. They can occur anytime, anywhere. Emergency services may not be immediately available if they are also impacted.

What will YOU do until help arrives? 

The Charleston County Emergency Management Department would like everyone to learn how to prepare their families, homes and businesses for all types of emergencies including natural and man-made disasters.

Four simple steps can help YOU get ready:

1. Get a kit of emergency supplies.
2. Make a plan of what you will do.
3. Be informed about what might happen.
4. Get involved in preparing your community.

					In a major disaster, it might be several days before vital services are restored. Charleston County is exposed to a wide variety of hazards, both natural and man-made. Earthquakes, severe storms, power outages, and acts of terrorism are just some of the potential emergencies we may encounter. Imagine that you have no electricity, no gas, no water and no telephone service. Imagine that all the businesses are closed and you are without any kind of emergency services.
