Temporary Traffic Shift on Old Folly Road for Intersection Improvements Traffic shift to begin at night on Sunday, Aug. 2
Both lanes of traffic on Old Folly Road, between Maybank Highway and Folly Road, will be shifted over to the west-bound lane beginning the night of Sunday, Aug. 2, in order to allow crews to remove the sidewalk and curb along the east-bound side of Old Folly Road. The construction is part of the Folly Road and Maybank Highway intersection improvement project.
The process of moving the traffic lanes will occur at night. Drivers choosing to use Old Folly Road are encouraged to drive with caution. Once the shift process is completed, traffic will continue to flow in both directions through two narrower lanes with a water-filled barrier placed between the traffic lanes and construction zone.
After crews remove the sidewalk and curb, new utility lines and a storm drain line will be installed. The traffic shift and construction activities on the east-bound side of Old Folly Road are expected to continue through the end of October 2009.
Any other road work on the project that could disrupt traffic will be announced through news releases issued to local media and posted on both the Charleston County Government and Charleston County RoadWise Web sites.
The intersection improvements for Folly Road an Maybank Highway, expected to be completed by the spring of 2010, are funded by the Transportation Half-Cent Sales Tax and managed by the Charleston County RoadWise Program.
When completed, the Folly Road and Maybank Highway intersection improvements will include:
