GIS

The Charleston County Geographical Information System (GIS) functions under the Technology Services Department.  The GIS division is responsible for the development and management of the County’s spatial database while providing data services to County departments, local businesses and governments.

The County’s GIS database contains data that encompasses the county’s departmental functions:

  • Countywide parcel boundaries are maintained and updated by the County Assessors office – Parcel Mapping division.

  • Countywide street centerlines are maintained by the County’s Planning Department.  Address points, maintained by County Planning, include those areas address by Charleston County Planning.  We do not maintain address points for the larger municipalities such as the City of North Charleston, City of Charleston, and Mount Pleasant.

  • Zoning for the unincorporated areas and the smaller municipalities is maintained by the GIS division.

  • Municipal boundaries, tax districts, and fire districts are maintained by the County’s GIS division.

  • 911 dispatch and EMS vehicle routing integration

Services provided by GIS:

  • Continual updates of existing GIS layers

  • Dissemination of GIS data to businesses and local governments

  • Specialized map and data requests (see Fee Schedule and data Licensing Agreement)

  • Manage updates of aerial and oblique imagery

  • Database support and maintenance
