Charleston County receives grant funding annually from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development to help provide resources that develop viable communities. Individuals, organizations, and townships are encouraged to apply to the Community Development Division for funding from:

The Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Program to help develop viable urban communities with decent housing in a suitable environment and economic opportunities, primarily for low-to-moderate-income residents.

The Emergency Shelter Grant Program to help provide decent, safe shelter and support for the homeless and those at risk of becoming homeless.

The HOME Investment Partnership Act (HOME) Program to provide affordable housing, assist nonprofit providers and state and local governments to provide housing and leverage private-sector participation.
