County by delivering services of value to the community.

What does Charleston County Recycle?

Charleston County Environmental Management Department manages Charleston County’s recycling and solid waste programs.

Recyclables (products that are remanufactured into new products) are collected, packaged and sold to remanufacturers by Charleston County Environmental Management Department at the County’s John L. Jencks Recycling Center at 13 Romney Street, Charleston, 29407. All materials put into County Blue bins, convenience Centers and Drop Sites Locations are brought across the scales at the Romney Street facility where they are sorted by type and baled or containerized for sale.

Charleston County recycles glass bottles and jars, aluminum and steel cans and aerosols, plastics 1-7 (except plastic bags, plastic wrap and Styrofoam) and all paper (including shredded), paperboard and cardboard.

Please rinse out your containers and place them in a separate bin or bag from your papers at the curb on your pickup day every other week. Free Blue Bins are available for pick up at our Romney Street Facility.  To check on your recycling day schedule please click here. For help finding outlets for materials not accepted in the County program, please visit DHEC’s site.

We recycle yard debris into compost at the Bees Ferry Landfill Compost Site (sold to Charleston County Residents for $10 a ton, 843-571-0929).

We also run a paint remix program ($4 for a 5 gallon bucket, Bees Ferry Convenience Center), as well as a collection program for household hazardous materials. Please click here for a list of materials accepted in our hazardous materials collection program.

Please participate, you make recycling happen.  Reduce, Reuse, Recycle
