County Employees Bring Their Kids to Work for a Day

Charleston County’s Human Resources Department is asking County employees to bring their children to work on Thursday, April 28. The event is expected to be a huge success, with 50 employees having registered their children, grandchildren, nieces or nephews between the ages of eight and fourteen.

The County’s event is in conjunction with the National Take Our Sons and Daughters to Work Day, and is part of the County’s many “family friendly” initiatives. The events are for children ages eight to fourteen years old.

“Approximately 50 of our employees and their children have registered and will participate on Thursday,” said Amy Southerland, a coordinator of the event for the Human Resources Department. “In addition to this day being a fun way of teaching the children about County services, we hope to help them make connections between what they learn in school and their future goals.”

From 9:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m., the children will be divided into groups and will be either outside or in County Council Chambers in the Public Services Building, 4045 Bridge View Drive. They will see presentations by Charleston County’s Emergency Medical Services, Sheriff’s Department K-9 unit, Recycling, Mosquito Control, Human Resources, and Safety & Risk Management.

From 1:00 p.m. - 2:30 p.m., the children will be in the Emergency Operations Center in the Public Services Building, where Building Inspections Services will present information on different types of hazards such as fire and inclement weather, i.e. tornadoes and hurricanes.
