Hurricane Season is June 1 to November 30

But disasters are not limited to hurricanes or a specific time of year. They can occur anytime, anywhere. Emergency services may not be immediately available if they are also impacted.

What will YOU do until help arrives? 

The Charleston County Emergency Management Department would like everyone to learn how to prepare their families, homes and businesses for all types of emergencies including natural and man-made disasters.

Four simple steps can help YOU get ready:

1. Get a kit of emergency supplies.
2. Make a plan of what you will do.
3. Be informed about what might happen.
4. Get involved in preparing your community.

Emergency preparedness is everyone's responsibility. Everyone should have an emergency plan and be prepared to take care of themselves for at least the first 72 hours after a disaster.

Ready Lowcountry is a partnership with the National Ready Campaign to provide local information, free resources and education, which you can utilize throughout the year to help prepare for all types of hazards.

					In a major disaster, it might be several days before vital services are restored. Charleston County is exposed to a wide variety of hazards, both natural and man-made.
