Board of Voter Registration & Elections

About Your Vote, Our Veterans

"Your Vote, Our Veterans" is a county-wide program that offers recognition of our brave veterans and provides encouragement to our citizens to vote in greater numbers. We believe it will cause individuals to feel empowered through the pride they feel for veterans and also will encourage them and others to vote. This program is aimed at raising awareness about the importance of voting and highlighting the bond between our veterans and democracy.

We are partnering with the Palmetto Warrior Connection, the S.C. National Guard, the Charleston Exchange Club and other organizations to inspire students, parents, churches, civic groups and others to participate in the voting process. The stories of our military members are inspirational and reinforce our message that their service to our nation helps provide us the right to vote.

"Your Vote, Our Veterans" includes a partnership with high schools, in order to reach our youngest voters. The school program includes: a visit from a veteran who will share his/her experiences serving in the military and convey the importance of democracy and voting; an assignment for students based on that visit, and a visit by our office that will teach a lesson on voting procedures and give students the opportunity to register to vote and sign up to be poll workers. A scholarship opportunity is available for students. We are looking to raise $25,000, and you can make a tax deductible donation to this scholarship fund. If your school is interested in having this program or for more information, please contact:

Isaac Cramer: ICramer@CharlestonCounty.org

Civic and community groups interested in requesting a veteran speak at one of their meetings or events can do so through this website. Below, you can submit a testimonial detailing why you've decided to vote in honor of a veteran. Once you have made your submission, you will be mailed a lapel pin to wear at the polls.
