CARTA Rides to Polling Locations

CARTA offering free rides to Charleston County polling locations on Election Day!
Election Day Transportation Assistance
The Charleston County Board of Voter Registration and Elections (BVRE) and the Charleston Area Regional Transportation Authority (CARTA) are excited to announce a new initiative for the upcoming General Election on November 5, 2024. In an effort to eliminate transportation barriers, CARTA will offer free rides to all polling locations throughout Charleston County and to BVRE headquarters on Election Day.

This collaboration aims to make voting more accessible, fostering greater civic participation and community engagement. By removing transportation obstacles, BVRE and CARTA are reinforcing their commitment to supporting every citizen's right to vote.
"We are thrilled to work with CARTA to offer this vital service to our community," said Isaac Cramer, Executive Director of the Charleston County Board of Voter Registration and Elections. "It is essential that every eligible voter has the opportunity to reach their polling place, ensuring a fair and inclusive election process."
"Public transit is a public service and CARTA is pleased to partner with BVRE to provide this important connection to voter services," added Michael Seekings, Chairman of CARTA.
Early Voting Transportation Assistance
During the early voting period from Monday, October 21 through Saturday, November 2 (excluding Sundays), voters can utilize two routes to reach early voting centers. CARTA Route 210, which is serviced by the free DASH shuttle, stops at the Main Library in downtown Charleston. Furthermore, CARTA Route 103 will be extended to include a stop at BVRE headquarters throughout the early voting period.
Please note that normal fares will apply for those riding the Route 103 bus to vote early at BVRE headquarters.
Hours for early voting are from 8:30AM to 6:00PM daily.
