Thank you for your interest in the election process! The Charleston County Board of Voter Registration and Elections is always looking for qualified Poll Worker to staff precincts throughout Charleston County on Election Day.

As a Poll Worker, you will have a unique opportunity to serve your community, meet your neighbors, and become involved in the electoral process. Poll Workers are compensated $250 and the Clerk of the Precinct receives $410 for each election they work.

Operation: Civic Duty

In 2024, BVRE launched an exciting partnership with Vet the Vote, a national initiative that recruits veterans to serve as poll workers during elections. “Operation: Civic Duty” seeks to provide local veterans with opportunities to serve their neighbors once again. We want these heroes to use their distinctive skills, their unwavering commitment to their country, and their leadership experience to help maintain the integrity of elections in Charleston County. We invite all who are interested to apply through the Election Worker Portal

Understanding the Process - Voting Explained by Charleston County Poll Workers

Qualifications

  • Must be a registered voter in South Carolina, or aged 16 or 17.
  • Be willing and able to complete and pass an Online Training Course AND attend an In-Person Poll Worker Training Session (1-2 hours) before EACH election.
  • Be prepared to work the ENTIRE Election Day, from 6:00AM until approximately 7:30PM.
  • Be non-partisan and neutral when working an election.

Election Day Duties Include:

  • Greeters
  • Qualifying voters (looking up name on voter registration list)
  • Activating the Ballot Marking Device for each voter
  • Distributing Provisional/Emergency and Fail-Safe Provisional ballots
  • Compliance with election law and procedures, and general assistance to voters

Due To Federal Policies All NEW Poll Workers MUST:

  • Complete a Poll Worker Packet during training.
  • Bring documentation that establishes Identity and Employment Eligibility to your scheduled Poll Worker training class
