The Public Works Department provides Charleston County's residents, commerce and visitors efficient, effective, responsive, and responsible County road and drainage infrastructure management and maintenance, engineering, stormwater, and mosquito control services through its integrated service delivery programs.
The Department is composed of a team of highly trained, well educated, and experienced individuals. Our spectrum of employees ranges from engineers and scientists to trained and experienced field technicians. It is our continued goal to not only provide service, but to use our expertise to educate and inform the citizens we serve.
The staff of Charleston County Public Works is dedicated to providing quality service to our community. We are determined to make Charleston County a better place to live through our work. To submit an Encroachment Permit electronically, please email a completed encroachment permit application along with a complete set of site plans to email@example.com
This will initiate the encroachment permit process and a Public Works representative will contact you within 72 hours. The submission of the permit does not authorize any work to begin and an application fee of $35 will be required. Submission of the application fee will be coordinated once the encroachment permit is received.

The Stormwater Division aims to promote and protect the quality of life in Charleston County by delivering services of value to the community and making sure all waters are fishable and swimmable.
County non-standard roads are a class of roads formerly known as community roads, which are being brought into the County Maintenance System as approved by County Council.
