Counsel for the cases listed on the status conference / trial roster prepared by the Solicitor's Office and posted on the Solicitor's web site are directed to appear before this Court at the time and place indicated in that roster! At the status conference, counsel for both the state and the defendant shall be prepared to discuss: the length of trial for scheduling purposes; the number of witnesses expected to testify; any issues pertaining to the indictment(s) on which the state is proceeding;2 discovery issues; conflict of interest issues; outstanding motions; scheduling concerns, including protection orders, requests to continue, and witness problems; and the possibility of placing the case on the plea docket.
Prior to the conference, as well as prior to being placed on the status docket, counsel for the state is directed to contact any law enforcement official or agency involved in the case to ensure compliance with both SCCrimP. Rule 5 and Brady. Prior to the conference, counsel for both parties are directed to communicate directly with each other regarding discovery and evidentiary issues to avoid surprise and to protect the rights of all concerned parties.

As Chief Judge, the undersigned ordered that status conferences be held in each General Sessions case appearing on the trial docket prepared by the Solicitor to ensure that each case proceeds in an orderly manner, to deal with any existing or potential problems, and to enable the undersigned to better assign duties amongst the judges of this Court.
2 Issues pertaining to the indictment include whether the indictment is true billed and any motions to amend. The court, sua sponte or upon motion, may inquire into subject matter jurisdiction. The state is directed to review the indictment for possible defects prior to the conference.
