Michael Miller is a mentor, community advocate, volunteer and former Charleston County School District Trustee. He is the son of Clyde and Linda Miller, a member of Union Baptist Church (North Charleston, SC), and is married to Cassandra McCrea of Kingstree, SC.
Michael graduated from Goose Creek High School in 1988, attended Benedict College in Columbia, SC on a soccer scholarship, and later transferred to Howard University in Washington, DC where he became a member of their nationally-ranked soccer team.
Not long after attending Howard University, he enrolled in Goose Creek Barber and Styling College where he completed his barber training. He became a Master Hair Care Specialist in 1993.
Following his completion of the Barber and Styling College, Michael was a volunteer Soccer Coach at Burke High School and also served as an Assistant Soccer Coach at Johnson & Wales University from 1996 to 1998.
In 2001, Michael became owner and operator of Michael & Company - a unisex hair salon, located at 1114 Mazyck Street in West Ashley, specializing in total hair care for men and women. Since then, his shop has become not only a popular hair grooming facility, but also an important hub where community members and leaders gather to discuss local issues, needs and solutions.
Michael Miller is no newcomer to the list of philanthropists within the Charleston area. In fact, for the past 20 years, Michael has been giving back to his community with his time and financial resources.
In 2003, Michael started supporting the community by providing free school supplies to underserved students of Charleston County. Since then, Michael has donated supplies to over 30,000 students and has partnered with over 20 local Charleston County School schools.
His weekly visits working with students and North Charleston high school staff inspired him to further his involvement by running and being elected to the Charleston County School District Board of Trustees in 2012.
Michael is a devoted husband and he and his wife Cassandra have been married since 2003. They are the proud parents of two children, daughter Michael Kamielle, and son Lord-Anthony. One can often see him escorting his children to school, attending parent conferences and local high school sporting events. He cares about his constituency and is attentive to the needs within the community. Often times, Michael meets with parents in the district and has never neglected to respond to their needs. His motto is "if not me then who".
In his role as the Register of Deeds, he has the opportunity to continue serving the community in a new capacity. His goal is to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the office while educating and improving the public's awareness of property ownership and history, as it pertains to the office.
He is a staunch advocate for the community and currently serves on the West Ashley Revitalization Commission where he supports the citizens of Charleston.
