Overview
The Charleston County Attorney's Office is the County's in-house legal department. This Office represents, advises, and advocates for Charleston County government, including County Council as well as the County's various boards, commissions, elected officials, appointed officials, and employees acting in their governmental capacity. The Office is led by the Charleston County Attorney, who is appointed by County Council, and includes Deputy County Attorneys, Assistant County Attorneys, and legal support staff. The Charleston County Attorney's Office is responsible for providing a myriad of in-house legal services such as drafting, amending, and enforcing ordinances, negotiating, drafting, and reviewing contracts, and litigating matters on behalf of the County before courts and administrative bodies. This Office does not provide legal services to individual County employees or citizens on personal matters.
